New Year New You

New Year New You
Grab your families, your friends and your favorite food because Eid al Fitr, the holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, is upon us! Celebrations are in full swing, and we’re here to help with all the Eid prep!

Ramadan might be over, but the spirit of generosity doesn’t stop there! Donations to charity are made and adults also give their kids eidiyas, gifts that are usually in the form of cash. If you feel like switching things up this year, how about attaching a small letter about how proud you are of all your daughter has accomplished so far?

Don’t forget, gifts can also be edible! Eid isn’t complete without a tower of maamoul – Middle Eastern cookies stuffed with dates or nuts to share with everybody. Try your hand at these together and make the day extra sweet with a favorite Eid tradition!

People always look their best during Eid, when traditionally new or clean clothes are worn. Let your daughter pick out her new clothes on your shopping spree for the big day. You’ll build confidence in her choices as she expresses her own personality through style. While you’re at it, why not get her American Girl an outfit as well so she isn’t left behind?

During the holiday, people host a large feast for their extended family and family friends. If your family is miles away, now’s the perfect time to pick up the phone, have long conversations and give your daughter the space to have a one-on-one with them, too. If your loved ones are no longer with you, it’s a good idea to bring your daughter along and pay them a visit to let them know they’re never forgotten.

Take advantage of the holidays, whether you choose to travel or relax in the city. Spend the break taking part in a shared hobby with your daughter after the hustle and bustle of the extended family is over – all that preparation and hosting can wear you out! Or arrange a hangout for your daughter and her friends and take some well-deserved time off for yourself.
