Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween
Halloween is here, a holiday that teaches your daughter that there’s nothing scary about using your imagination. There are no rules—playing pretend, arts and crafts and wicked fun are all part of the program!

It all starts with the costume. While you can buy plenty of exciting ones, it’s much more fun to make your own! Get inspired, brainstorm with your daughter then make a trip to the craft store for some art supplies. From face painting and sewing to papier-mâché and even fairy lights, the possibilities are endless! And don’t be afraid to use free printables or cut-out designs found online to help your project. Don’t leave your daughter’s doll out, we’ve got custom-fit outfits so she can go trick or treating, too!

Halloween costumes don’t need to be frightening. Here are some other interesting angles:

  • Your daughter’s favorite character from a book, American Girl story, cartoon or movie
  • A mythical creature, or something from her own imagination
  • A famous or historical personality
  • Wordplay and puns

While she dabbles in fabric and glue and incorporates things lying around the house, your daughter will learn to be resourceful, not wasteful. Can’t find googly eyes? Draw some on instead! After all, creativity is all about problem-solving. This applies to Halloween decorations, too. After you’ve finished carving Jack-O’-Lanterns, save the pumpkin pulp to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup… you name it.

If you’re too short on time to get crafty, join us at our American Girl Dubai stores where we’ll be making our own spooktacular decorations from October 25th to the 31st (TBC).

It can be tempting to reach for more candy when trick or treating, but this is a great opportunity to teach your daughter to be generous as she makes sure there’s enough candy to go around for everyone. Your daughter and her friends can collect candy then pool it all together, or trade favorites amongst themselves. Community is at the heart of this festival.
